Thinking of Running a Marathon?
Lots of people enjoy running. I don’t. I don’t even really enjoy walking. To me it just seems like a slow slightly inefficient way of getting from A to B. I am probably also one of the laziest people you might have the pleasure of meeting.
I do however have the utmost respect for anyone who takes part in even a half marathon and even more respect for people who run a marathon for a good cause. Below I have compiled a few very interesting marathons that take place every year across the globe.
5 Interesting Marathons
- Marathon Du Medoc – Situated in the Medoc wine region in France, this marathon passes 50 Chateuxs and if you so wish you can have a glasses of wine instead of water at them. They also serve Foie Gras to the runners who need a bit of refueling.
- Little Rock Arkansas Marathon – For the the slightly vain this one is a must. At mile 26.1 there is a station which runners can beautify themselves for the finish, this can involve putting on lipstick and perhaps even Cologne. It also has the largest finishers medal which measures 6.25 inches by 4.25 inches.
- North Pole Marathon – Situated in Norway and taking place during the Summer Solstice, this attracts generally under 50 entrants (fairly obvious) and in 2007 it was so cold (-4f) that runners donned snow shoes.
- Everest Marathon – Continuing the ‘cold’ theme this Marathon is the highest in the world at 17,000 feet. It takes runners along the mountain trails at the start of the Everest Base Camp.
- Great Wall Marathon – An excellent, scenic Marathon across the Great Wall in China. Unfortunately for the slightly unfit amongst us it starts with a 3.1 mile uphill stretch. I am however led to believe that it does get slightly easier as it progresses or should I say ‘snakes’ across the wall.
- Safaricom Marathon – Lots of people get killed and perhaps eaten by wild animals in Africa so why not travel to Kenya (the location of this idea) and run two 13.1 mile loops of the Lewa Game Reserve and take your chances with the wild animals.
