Google Earth Sat Nav

Cars have been getting smarter ever since some Killjoy put a voice in the car to remind you that you didn’t have a seat belt on. As infuriating as the whole ‘car talking to ya” technology is there have been some actually great inventions in the “Noughties” and Voice Sat Nav is definitely one.

As a Sat Nav user myself but not an actual licensed car driver, I can full say that Sat Nav is one of those invention which works, my only slip ups where when I only put the postcode in….

This is the first time that Google Earth has been integrated into a production vehicle and will allow drivers to download points of interest, satellite imagery or information articles to the A8′s eight-inch LCD display from the mobile network. The user will be able to search Google Earth’s database directly from the vehicle, displaying up-to-date information on a destination/landmark, displaying it in 3D or plotting a course using the onboard navigation system.

Drivers will be able to plan routes on Google Maps or the Audi web portal while at home and retrieve them in the car, eliminating the need for route calculation on-the-go. Audi also claims that the system will be able to “predictively analyze” route information, with the multimedia interface relaying navigation information to the car’s other systems such as the cruise control, lights and the 8-speed gearbox to allow these systems to automatically adapt to road conditions in advance.

Customers will need to insert their SIM card into the A8′s multimedia system or pair a Bluetooth-enabled handset to use the new online services alongside the existing offline GPS navigation content.

The richness of on-board data has become a key differentiator in the car market recently, with several companies working to enhance the basic maps that are traditionally preloaded in GPS-equipped vehicles. Ford and Microsoft tie-up SYNC allows consumers to access personalized traffic reports, precise turn-by-turn driving directions and up-to-date information including business listings, news, sports and weather.

This article was taken from The Independent.

An interesting point I hope you will agree that the article fails to mention is whether the new Audi will take any old sim card or does it have to be in a contract or what? Or could I use one of the free SIM cards sim card offers that seem to be on every page of the internet?

If I could afford this car perhaps I would buy it, but then again a Sat Nav picked up at a normal shop will probably allow your banger to travel to the same places on the move…

World Cup here we come

OK, So we routed the Croatians – it felt nice, a 5-1 victory; to up the moral of the country and unfortunately give us all delusions of grandeur as to us winning the World Cup. Capello seems to be quickly ousting the negative effect that the WAGS are having on the lads. By banning contact or something.

WAGS Down and Dirty in the Jungle? Best Place for them?

WAGS Down and Dirty in the Jungle? Best Place for them?

So we ARE of to South Africa to try and ‘win’ the title. It will however be interesting to see how many people go to all 7 of the definite games England will play, the news is stating that scammers are already trying to sell tickets for 6k plus – so contact FIFA if you want to go and they should be able to sell you a ticket to all of the games for just shy of 2k which is slightly more reasonable!

In many ways its wrong to just go to South Africa just to watch the football, its a pretty beautiful country and to help encourage people to actually have a ‘good look’ around Satpack travel are including a new form of Sat-Nav with any Car Rental taken out. The Sat Navs will include travel information and advice as to what to see, this will no doubt enhance travelers experiences whilst in SA. The system will almost work like having a personal tour guide on hand with ‘a wealth of local knowledge’ .

This Sat-Nav is perfect for exploring somewhere slightly off the beaten track and will help users to explore South Africa in a more personable way.
