Jarvis is going Blue are you?

Nice little video here for Oxfam’s push for something to be done about Climate Change – I especially like how Jarvis Cocker gets splattered with paint – similar to when he tried to get into a London Club and they wouldn’t let him in because they didn’t know who he was (Don’t know where I heard this it could be not true!)

Little Boots is looking cute as always and starts to look fairly uncomfortable when one bloke is kissing her slightly to much!

Zero Carbon Housing

Around us everything seems to be changing perhaps for the better or even for the worst. One thing this week caught my eye whilst browsing the BBC

One of the top UK house builders Miller homes, have built a ‘zero carbon house’ to help combat climate change.
Personally I think its pretty cool and am interested to see whether housing such as this will really replace the housing we have presently. I’m all for diversity and change you see . Check out the video here for a look around this ‘special’ kind of house

Water Saving – A Drain?

We seem to live in a society where messages are sent from leaders across media – shouting slogans like ‘We Need Change’ etc. The messages don’t ever really seem to transcend down into our local environments.

Take for example water. More importantly Water saving. According to a colleague of mine this sticker was around before his time and he was around a fair few years before me!

Water Saving Circa Unknown? Could be before Christ

Water Saving Circa Unknown? Could be before Christ

Now its important to understand that this sticker despite the hugely important meaning, is located in the cleaners broom cupboard, so in terms of the amount of people who generally see it weekly there are not many. Climate Change is effecting us all currently with the Third World constantly battling problems such as extreme heat resulting in lack of water. Now the real question remains: “How long before we face the same issues as the Third World has faced for a long time?” Possibly not long.

Whilst on the subject of saving water in the areas that effect me i.e my work place I found a few things which could be altered to help improve people’s visibility of such issues that a water shortage surely would bring…

Brown Fingers? Use this instead?

Brown Fingers? Use this instead?

Now Swine Flu has recently dominated the nations news and as a consequence these alcohol gel hand sanitisers have been installed in all of the toilets of my office block – I haven’t checked the ladies! Now yes we need to be preventative in our response to Swine Flu and of course any illness, but surely this sign should be altered to encourage people to use this instead of after going for a ‘wee’ using the alcohol gel? Surely the majority of people don’t urinate on their hands? Apologies if you do – but you need to get a grip. Literally.

A Toilet in a home uses roughly 30-40% of a households water usage monthly. Which is a surprising amount. The toilets at my workplace seem to be the most energy/water inefficient going.

Not Efficient

Not Efficient

As you notice they are nice and clean and comfy (I have to say stuff like this: and yes its true) but the ‘flusher’ seems to be outdated and poor – Surely a sensor button which reduces amount of water needed is a better alternative…

This Video about the recent Pakistan water shortages, shows literally how important water is – its use will never go, its a basic human necessity.

So for the good of everyone lets start thinking about how we can sort the ‘water problem’ out and climate change, so that we can avoid catastrophes such as the recent floods in Bangladesh

Also contact your local water provider they will be able to send you lots of leaflets relating to saving money, and helping to save water!
