An Update on Urban Car Sharing Schemes

A while ago I wrote about Urban Car Sharing Schemes and how they where perhaps the best idea I had seen in recent months.

Urban Car Hire clubs are one way of saving money and still in many ways having access to a motor. The system is straight forward, there are a fleet of cars parked around a given city, which you can book online, some for as little as an hour. Prices vary from as little as £4-£8 an hour, or roughly £28-£65 for a whole day- this all depends on what car you are hiring. You Porsche 911 chaps: this scheme is not for you… There is a annual membership fee however, which is between £25-50. The best thing about this scheme is petrol is not calculated straight away – you will generally get 30-60 miles free and then be charged at the fairly cheap fee of between 19-25p a mile.

So in the name of photography and because I’m slightly bored today I have decided to walk out of work and photograph these cars which are conveniently position about 100 metre’s away from my work place. A Set of Eco Car Rentals available to hire by the hour at a fairly good rate…

I think schemes like this would be especially useful in a the holiday parks of Ibiza, Larnaca or even any other popular holiday destinations, as I have personally found that when you actually hire a car for a week that you end up not using it for several of the days.

Equally it might be worth local councils introducing car rental as a policy that house holds could say only own 1 car – but a pool of cars is available to hire at any point from any destination?

Who knows you might find a day when you actually use them…
